ELIGIBILITY

Timing and pregnancy criteria

• Current service information applies from 10 weeks 0 days in a singleton pregnancy.
• The recommended window is 10 weeks 0 days to 15 weeks 6 days.
• Testing after 16 weeks, twin pregnancies or maternal weight of 80 kg or more requires individual confirmation.

MEDICAL HISTORY

Information to disclose before testing

• Current or previous cancer treatment, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or stem-cell treatment
• Organ transplantation
• Blood transfusion within the previous 12 months
• Any concerns raised by your obstetric care provider

LIMITATIONS

What NIPT cannot tell you

NIPT does not assess every congenital or structural condition and does not replace routine prenatal care or ultrasound.

• False-positive, false-negative and inconclusive results can occur.
• A positive result may require diagnostic testing such as amniocentesis.
• Preferences about fetal-sex disclosure should be confirmed before blood collection.

Overseas analysis and genetic information

Current service information states that specimens are analysed overseas. Before testing, review the laboratory, data transferred, retention period, destruction, secondary use and result-delivery method in the consent documents.
