BEFORE YOUR TEST

Before taking NIPT

Review the purpose, eligibility, limitations and possible next steps before applying.

The essential point

NIPT is a screening test. A negative result cannot completely exclude a condition, and a positive result does not establish a diagnosis.

  • A positive result may require diagnostic testing such as amniocentesis.
  • Preferences about fetal-sex disclosure should be confirmed before blood collection.

DATA & SHIPPING

Overseas analysis and genetic information

Before proceeding, ask your provider to explain transfer of specimens and personal information to Taiwan, the recipient, purpose, Taiwan's personal-information protection system and the recipient's safeguards, retention and deletion terms, and any subcontracting. This does not establish that all data is stored in Taiwan. Required consent and other arrangements must be confirmed first.

Know who handles each step before choosing a test.
